Week Ending 5/7/19

In Maths this week we have been working on Telling the Time.  We know that the long hand is the minute hand and the short hand is the hour hand.  We can tell the time to the o’clock, half hour, quarter to and quarter past the hour.  We also know that we can count around the clock in 5s and that 60 minutes is an hour. I also showed them TOOTHPASTE to help them remember which side of the clock is past the hour and which side of the clock is to the hour.

Week Ending 28/6/19

This week in P.E we have started to practise for Sports Day.  This week we practiced the egg and spoon race, throwing the javelin, a shuttle race and an over and under race.

Week Ending 21/6/19

Wow! What a lovely day we had at the Roald Dahl’s Children’s Gallery.

When we got there we put our lunches and coats in trolleys in the lunch room we were allocated. Then we were taken to the gallery where we sat down on some blue steps.  Here one of the members of staff talked to us about Roald Dahl, his books and showed us some pictures of him and his office. We found out that Road Dahl only used yellow paper and a yellow pencil to write him stories as yellow was a lucky colour for him.  The lady showed us the BFG’s dream trumpet and blew a dream all over us.

After this talk, we were split into two groups to explore the gallery, half of us started downstairs and half of us started upstairs.  We then swapped, using the Great Glass Elevator. In our groups, we had great fun exploring all of the activities that are based on the stories of Roald Dahl’s books.  We crawled through Mr. Fox’s tunnel, went into Mathilda’s library, looked at insects in a giant peach, explored all of the optical illusions and went in a shadow box to make shadows.  We even did some role play from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and our images got put on T.V as well!

Then it was time for lunch.

After lunch we went into Bucks County Museum and another lady read us the Enormous Crocodile.  She talked to us about predators and told us that we were going to explore the museum to find features that predators have to help them to catch their prey.  We drew these features on a sheet of paper. When we had done this, we went to the arts and crafts area and made a predator puppet.

After this it was time to go home.

Week Ending 14/6/19

We were really lucky this week because Jim came to our school to do a cricket workshop with us.  We took it in turns to field and bat the ball.

Week Ending 7/6/19

During the first part of this week, in Maths,  we were learning about Capacity. We talked about what Capacity is and discussed what full, half full, empty and ¾ full look like.  We looked at containers of different shapes and sized and estimated which would hold more and which would hold less. We then counted cups of water into each container to see if our order was correct.  We found out that it’s not always the tallest container that holds the most water, it also depends on its shape. To finish off this Capacity topic the children made jelly, which required them to measure using ml.

Week Ending 24/5/19

Here are a couple of pictures from our mini olympics that we went to on Tuesday.  The children took part in a carousel of activities and had a lovely time doing things like throwing and catching, running, target throw, team games, balancing and jumping over mini hurdles.  The activities were led by the children that go to Queens.

Also this week we did a Scavenger Hunt  as part of Outdoor learning week.

Week Ending 17/5/19

Our Geography topic this term has been Town and Country.  We have been looking at the United Kingdom and learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom.  This week we made posters about one of the countries in the U.K.

Week Ending 10/5/19

In Art are looking at artists who have made 3D sculptures.  So far we have looked at the work of Michelle Reader, Barbara Hepworth and Jill Townsley and had a go at making a sculpture in the same styles of these artists.

This week we looked at the work of Jill Townsley who made sculptures using common and everyday materials.  In pairs or groups we made sculptures just using plastic spoons and elastic bands.

Week Ending 5/4/19

We were really lucky this week because Professor Chris came to do some Science workshops.  He was talking to us about journeys. In our workshop he talked to us about journeys electricity makes for things to work.  He also made slime for us to have a little play with.

Week Ending 29/3/19

Our History topic this half term is Transport.  We have been looking at how Transport has changed over time.  So far we have looked at the changes in boats and cars. This week we looked at the history of trains and how they changed people’s lives in the 19th century.  Here is some of this week’s work.

Week Ending 22/3/19

Our Science topic this half term is Changes in Seasons.  We have bee learning what happens as Winter changes into Spring. We looked at what happens to the weather, trees and daylight.  To support his topic, this week we went on a Spring walk around the school to see if we could find signs of spring. As you can see from the pictures we did.

Week Ending 15/3/19

As it was Science week this week we came off topic for our Science lesson to do a special experiment.

Skittles were put on a plate around the edges.  We then predicted what we thought would happen.

Warm water was then poured onto the plate and then we watched what happened.  As you can see from the pictures, the colours ran into the centre of the plate forming stripes.

The children then found out that this happens because the coloured sugar on the sweets dissolved and ran into stripes.  We even saw the S from the skittles floating around too!

We then recorded what happened.

Week Ending 8/3/19

It was so lovely to see children dress up as we we celebrated World Book Day.  We were very lucky that author Sue Hampton came in to talk to us and do a workshop with us.  We also made World Book Day Selfies and shared books with children in Year 2.

Week Ending 1/3/19

In Maths this week we have been learning about 1/2s and 1/4s.  We found halves and quarters of shapes and we now know that two halves make a whole, four quarters make a whole and 2/4 make a ½.

Week Ending 15/2/19

We had a special treat this week, when a lady came in to teach us more about the Chinese New Year and showed us how to do a Chinese dance.  We also did a parade.

Week Ending 8/2/19

In English, this week we have been learning to follow and write instructions.  We learnt we use imperative verbs and time conjunctions to write instructions. As part of this week we followed instructions to make a jam sandwich.  We had great fun doing it.

Week Ending 25/1/19

This week we had a very exciting Science lesson.  Our topic is Animals, including humans. As part of this topic we have been learning about our senses and how they help us to find out about the world around us.

Our lesson this week was all about using our senses to find out what things, smells, tastes and sounds were.  We listened to sounds with our eyes shut, we put our hands in a feely bag to guess what the object was just by touch, we smelled different foods and drinks and we tasted different foods with our eyes shut.

We  also went in the hall and worked in pairs.  One person in each pair had their eyes shut and their partner had to guided them around the hall.  We talked about how some people can’t see all the time and need guided dogs or white canes to find their way around.

Week Ending 18/1/19

Our Antarctica role play corner is coming together for the children to be intrepid explorers.  What will they see?

Week Ending 14/12/18

Well done to the Infants for a fantastic Christmas Nativity.  We hope you enjoyed it.

Week Ending 16/11/18

This week has been Anti Bullying week.  During this week we did a lot of PSHE work on how our family helps us, that it’s good we are all different and how to be a good friend.  We also work odd socks to show that being different is good.

Week Ending 9/11/18

On Wednesday we had a lovely time taking part in Outdoor Learning Day.  In English we have been reading Leaf Man, so as part of this we went outside and made a leaf man and described it.

In the afternoon we went outside again to make tree spirits out of mud, leaves, stones, twigs, etc.  Enjoy a selection of photos from this day.

In P.E this week we have been travelling in different ways on the apparatus.

Week Ending 12/10/18

This week in Science we did an experiment.  Teddy got wet playing in the rain so we needed to work out what material would be best to make an umbrella for him.  We put Teddy in a jar and put each material on top.  Then we put 4 drops of water on each material to see what happened in the water.  We tested plastic, net, cotton and paper.  Ask your child which material was the best.
